Christmas – Part 2

Jack made out like a bandit this year….well I suppose every year of his life so far.   Jack is so spoiled and so loved.    This year it seems like his favorite Christmas presents were:

1.  Kobe Bryant jerseys; and

2.  Star Wars Stormtrooper gun

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy 2010!!

Christmas - Part 1

This year Jack asked Santa Claus for yet another Trash Truck. Here is Jack coming downstairs and seeing if Santa left him a present:

Jack was happy to get another Trash Truck but I think the novelty of the trash truck is slowly wearing off as he didn't rush out to play with the trash truck like last year.

Ornament…

My second Christmas I celebrated with Aya was my first year in my house.  I remember my dad delivering the Christmas Tree (yes, my dad delivered this year’s tree as well…it’s tradition) and I had no ornaments.

I kind of liked just having a bare tree with white lights.  It was nice and simple.  Plain but I liked it.  I also looked forward to getting one ornament a year and then looking back 25-30 years later having 25-30 ornaments.  I didn’t want to run out and just load up my tree with ornaments.   Plus, I was poor back then so I didn’t want to spend my money on ornaments.

Well, Aya bought me my first ornament.  I had this nice big tree with NO ornaments and this is the ornament Aya buys for me:

ornament_bugs

At the time I was working at Warner Bros. so the Bug Bunny ornament was appropriate.  However the size of the ornament was NOT.  Here is a zoomed out version with other REGULAR sized ornaments next to it:

ornament

See it?  It is between the yellow one and the Mickey Mouse one.  See it.  Yeah.  I not only got Bugs but I got two others…the same size as Bugs.  I think we lost the other two because we can’t find them in the tree when we throw them out.

Merry Christmas everyone!!

Dinners...

I went from having no plans to having lunches and dinners with friends for the next two weeks. A belated HAPPY 40th birthday to Ron.

Jenny and I discovered that we are "maybe" on the B-Tier list for the 40th birthday party invitations. I suppose if I copy Ron's daughters first and middle name for my daughter then I might get on next year's birthday invite list. Kailee Kimiko Yoshioka. Hmmm.

--

Jeff and Melanie took Aya and I out to dinner at Piknik in Playa Vista for my birthday.

Phew, all this going out to eat is fattening me up. I gained 7 lbs between my birthday and the weekend after Thanksgiving. So much for trying to weigh less than Aya when she gives birth.

Olivia's Birthday...

We went to Olivia's 4th birthday party at Color Me Mine over the weekend.

It was Jack's first time to Color Me Mine and Jack picked out a cup to paint.
Jack was very patient painting. While other kids painted quick and ran around, Jack stayed in his chair working on his cup.
Good thing my parents got Jack an art easel for his birthday because I would hate to see what his cup would look like without any art practice!

Hahahahhaha! I wonder if 'glazing' it in the oven will make it look any better. \
Afterwards we were on Main Street in Montrose...well not Main Street but we saw Santa so I took Olivia, Sarah and Jack to meet Santa!

Big Bear…

Last Thursday Aunty Dawn, cousin Scott, Jack and I decided to head up to Big Bear for the day.  Dawn and Scott went snowboarding while Jack and I planned to go sledding, build a snowman and have a snowball fight…oh yeah and this was Jack’s first time being in the snow!!

The trip did NOT start off well.  Dawn thought Big Bear mountain was her own personal race track in my dads truck so while we were bobbing and weaving in the back seat I hear Jack tell me, “Daddy my stomach aches”.  That is code for, “Dad I am going to throw up.”

I started to scramble around for some plastic bags and luckily we had some plastic grocery bags in the car.  Luckily as soon as I got the bags ready Jack barfed right into the bag…and then onto my hand.  Nothing is grosser than barf…warm barf on your hand.   The next conversation went like this:

Miles:  Dawn, can you pull over at the next shoulder.

Dawn: What for?  Is Jack ok.

Miles:  Yeah he is fine.  I want to throw out this barf bag.

Dawn: You can’t do that.  There is no trash can.

Miles: So.  I just plan to toss it out on the shoulder.  I don’t want to hold the bag in the car.  Plus it smells and it might leak.

Scott:  Yeah, lets pull over and toss it.

Dawn:  Fine but that is littering.

Littering???  You have got to be kidding me.   Luckily Jack feels a lot better once we get to Snow Summitt.  The weather was great and it wasn’t very cold.  After Jack and I dropped off Dawn and Scott we headed back  into town to go sledding.  There was place where you could sled all day for $25 bucks.  Kids under 6 are free.   To top that off there was an escalator/people mover so you don’t have to walk up the hill.  The people mover takes you up, you sled down…easy peasy!

I was thinking I can probably get sled down hill at least 100 times!  I have 3-4 hours to kill.  Well, I forgot I had Aya’s son with me.  After 3 times down the mountain Jack says, “Can we go home now.”

Miles:  What?  No way.  We  just got here.  It is 10:00 and we are staying until 1:00.

Jack:  How long is that?

Miles: 3 hours.  We are sledding 100 times before we go home.

Jack:  How many have we done now?  100?

Miles: NO!  3.

Jack:  I am hungry.

Miles: No you are not.

Jack:  I am thirsty.  I want milk.

Miles:  Fine.  Lets go to the snack shop.

Of course there was no milk so we went back to the car.  Sat in the back.  Ate chips, PB & J and water.  After a 30 minute break we went back to sledding.  After about 4-5 trips down the mountain Jacks asks, “Was that 100 times?”

Miles:  What?  No.  That was #5 (I was lying)

Jack: No Daddy.  Remember we went down 1…2…3…4….5…

Miles:  Yeah, Yeah, Yeah…it is NOT 1:00 yet.

Jack: What time is it?

Miles:  10:30.  We are going down 100 times or until 1:00

Jack:  I want to go home already.

Miles:  Okay, lets go down backwards now!!

At 11:30, we had to take another break.  Jack was hungry again.   This time he wasn’t just hungry but he was tired too.  "Daddy, I am tired.  Sledding is a lot of work.”   Grrr.  This is totally not my kid.  We already took 2 snack breaks AND he is tired.  There is an escalator.  The sledding is downhill.  Plus, kids under 6 have to ride with an adult, so Jack is on top of me while riding.  If there is any work involved, I am doing it!!

Luckily after our next break more kids came and then Jack wanted to play on the kiddie hill with them.   All in all we had a great day, although I think Jack would have preferred going to school.  What a weasel.

Here is a short video of our day:

Sleeping…

I never have a camera around when I see Jack sleeping like this but it always cracks me up that Jack clasps his hands together and sleeps on it.

I wonder if he will still sleep like that when he is a teenager.  hahahaha!

Gift Exchange…

Our usual guys only Christmas gift exchange was expanded to include girls this year.   The rules were simple:

1. a $20 gift

2. We draw numbers to decide who picks first.

3. A gift can be stolen up to 3 times before it can no longer be stolen.

4. No porn this year as a gift.

I thought I brought the best gift of the night…a Snuggie and a  framed picture of myself!!

Sadly…or not so sadly a better gift was brought as the dentist of the group brought:

Which he got from his work…obviously…”NOT FOR RETAIL SALE”.   The cheap bastard didn’t even include $20 bucks because the person that got his present wasn’t there!

Baby Shower…

Now this is the type of Baby Shower that I can get on board with!  My friends gave me a baby shower present…without me having to go to a baby shower.  We just got together for our usual monthly happy hour and before we all left for the night they gave me this baby shower diaper gift basket!

Hmm,  I probably should have taken a group shot of everyone…maybe I will have that in my next post.

4 Year Physical

Jack went in for his 4 year check-up.  Everything checked out a-ok.

Stats:

Height:  40 inches

Weight: 36 lbs

Jack also had to get his vaccination shots for DTAP and Polio.  While we were there we decided to get the H1N1 shot as well.

36 Week Checkup

Aya went for her 36 week checkup last week.  Everything was normal and going as planned.

pregnant_36_weeks

This checkup also included the final ultra-sound test so we took Jack so he could see his baby sister on the monitor.   Unfortunately the ultra sound test wasn’t very clear and it was hard to see anything.  Jack wasn’t very interested in watching the monitor.

Right now the doctor thinks the baby is about 5.5 lbs and will be just over 6 lbs at birth.   I think the doctor thinks this baby will come before the January 4, 2010 due date.

Santa…

It was time for our annual trip to the mall to visit Santa Claus:

santa_jack

What a difference a year makes.  Jack was happy to see Santa last year.  This year he was still excited to see Santa, but only so Jack could tell Santa all the presents that he wants this year!  This year Jack wants EVERYTHING!  ugh.

One of those kids…

It was the last day of Sports class for Jack last week and I dunno what got into him but he pulled out all the stops.

At first Jack got a bucket, stacked a soccer ball on the bucket and then sat / humped the ball:

Jack then took the boundary cone and stuck it on his head:

An oldie but a goodie…Mr. Buckethead returns!

A new look and not one that I am fond of…I call it the Elton John:

Even with all the goofing around, Jack got his medal at the end of class!

Birthday Celebration #3

Jack got to celebrate his birthday for a THIRD time on Thanksgiving day with the family.

bday4_pt3_candle

Before we went to my Aunts house we went to Boomer’s in Fountain Valley for some miniature golf.   Jack did not golf as well as he did last time.  I think he was tired but he just wasn’t into golfing this time as much as the first time we went.

 boomers_dad

Jack did have a good time playing video games.  Jack ended up playing Deal or No Deal.  Jack always wanted to make the deal.  Jack actually did quite well as he narrowed it down to the million dollar case and a 50,000 case.  We ended up taking the deal (which was good as we had the $50,000 case) and Jack got a boat load of tickets to redeem at the gift shop.

All in all it was a fun day with games, food and family!
