Notice, one part of the banana peel is gone.   It is called, I peeled it myself and threw it some place in the house for Daddy to find it.   Grrr.

Kailee’s Birthday…

I thought I would be good enough to go Kailee’s birthday party but rehab takes up so much time that I wasn’t able to go.   Kailee had her birthday at Pump It Up:

Jack and Stacy had fun on all the slides and bouncers:

I like Kailee and Jack making goofy faces…not sure if it was planned…but pretty funny.

Post Op Update…

I got my stiches pulled out a weeks ago:

acl_post_stiches_out

So far so good.  Everything looks good.   Visiting the doctor sucks as he is just not personable at all.  In addition, it is such a time kill.   For example, if I have a 4:00 appointment the nurse came in, cleaned up my knee, pulled the stiches out and cleaned up the knee again in 5 minutes.  Then I had to wait to see the doctor for 1 hour.

I am able to drive now.   The doc said I can take off the brace but I have to be on crutches longer if I am not going to use the brace.   I still have to do therapy 4-6 hours a day, ice, and elevate it.

Now the real work starts as I will be returning the knee machine and going into the rehab center to work out and have someone bend my leg….not looking forward to that at all.

Must be nice to just be kicking back on a horse along the beach:

Kauai Part 1…

The month of January was very busy for Aya and I …we were like ships passing in the night.   Right after New Years, Aya went to San Francisco for a week.   When she got back, I left for Miami for a week.  The day I flew back to LA, Aya was on a plane with our friend Trish to Kauai!

Trish won an all expense paid trip to Kauai and invited Aya to go with her.  Last year, Trish won a trip to Costa Rica but Aya’s most was still very sick and Aya didn’t want to leave her mom so we had to skip on that trip, but not this year!

Aya had 5 day’s of sun, surf and tennis:

I couldn’t believe Aya would play tennis….I sure hope her partner had lots of patience.   Aya even went snorkeling!

So when I say all expense paid, activities were paid for, dinners were paid for…they even had a per diem…even for guests of the winners!!   Man, some people have all the luck!!  Next year the trip is in the Caribbean and I called dibs on being Trish’s guest!!

Dim Sum…

We celebrated Aya’s birthday with some Dim Sum in Gardena:

Normally, I eat a lot at Dim Sum and then I am hungry a few hours later.  I really must have gorged myself because I ate a lot and I was full for the rest of the day!

Valentine's Day...

For Valentine's Day, Grandma Chaunch mailed Jack and Stacy $25 dollars each.   I put Stacy's money in her piggy bank and I left Jack's money on his table so Jack could put his own money into his piggy bank.

When I came upstairs, I saw Jack messing with Stacy's piggy bank:

Miles:  What are you doing?
Jack:  I am putting money in Stacy's piggy bank.
Miles:  Why?  I already put Stacy's money in her piggy bank.
Jack: Yeah, but I wanted to give her my money for Valentines Day.
Miles:  The whole $25 dollars?
Jack:  Yes, she is a girl and girls need presents for Valentines Day.

Aya and I had no idea, or even mentioned to Jack that Stacy needs a present.  Shoot, even I didn't get Stacy or Aya a present.  (Hey, in my defense, I can't walk or drive so I couldn't go to the mall).

If I didn't catch him in the act, I wouldn't have even known about it.   Jack is just so sweet to his sister.

Booger

We were driving home from Jack's basketball game and when I turned around to talk to Jack he was sleeping.   What's the big deal?   Nothing except for the fact he had a green booger on this thumb!!

hahahhahahhaha!

Post Op…

I had my post operation checkup this week.   Luckily it was moved up a few days because the brace was just annoying me so much.  It was hot, it doesn’t move, horrible to sleep in.  I think 5 days of that thing on is all I could take!!   After the brace was off it was instant relief at the doctors.  It felt like my leg could breathe a bit:

The nurse changed out the dressing:

And here is my leg with no dressing…just the stiches.  The stiches will come out next week:

Sadly, the doctor said the progress on my knee was not as good as he had hoped.   He said I have very bad knee bursitis and that is slowing down the healing.   Funny, in my PT machine my legs bends find and I am okay.   When I am trying to move it on my own it doesn’t move.   In any case, since the swelling is still there, I get to move around the house without the brace but I have to ice the knee and continue PT.   He didn’t clear me for work either and he didn’t like the fact that I went into work the day after surgery.   So, now I am home, ice and therapy.   The good news is the new ligament is solid and stable.

Miles 2.0….

Yup, updates might slow down for the next few weeks as I had ACL surgery and meniscus surgery done last Wednesday.   All is all it went pretty smoothly I suppose.   I went in for surgery at 6:30.   Surgery started at 8:30 and I was back home before noon.   The basically cut my right knee open, drilled out 2 pieces of bone, graphed my patella tendon and reattached it where my missing ACL ligament was torn.   Then for the meniscus, they repaired it.   The doc said in my pre-op meeting that most of the time the meniscus is not repaired but usually just cut away but I guessed I lucked out and they were able to repair it.

I was able to hobble around hours after the surgery:

A machine was delivered the day before surgery and I have to do physical therapy on my knee 4-6 hours a day.  Basically the machine lifts my leg 40 degrees the first day and I increment it 5 degrees every day after.   I had to do therapy starting the day I got home.   I got a nerve blocker in my leg and it was suppose to wear off after 12 hours but it wore off closer to 24 hours so I didn’t feel anything in my leg for a day.

acl_surgery_day3

The day after it was more painful but I was sure if it was from surgery or going into the office.  I can’t drive yet, but my dad took me into the office.  I only worked a few hours and worked from home the rest of the day.  Friday, Saturday and Sunday I rested most of the day and did my therapy and my knee feels good.

I got off the pain meds after 3 days.  I was having strange dreams and I didn’t feel 100% there on the pain meds.    I decided to stop taking them and just take aspirin for the time being.   So far so good.

Jack already pressed down on my leg and that HURT but luckily we were around family or else I would have totally socked him.   For the most part Jack has been really nice.  He helps strap my leg into the machine and he gets my crutches for me.   Since I am in bed most of the time the kids joined me to watch Rio.

acl_watching_rio1

Hopefully I will be out and about in a few days.  I have my post surgery visit on Tuesday.   More than anything I can’t wait to unlock the brace and take a shower.  The doc said no showers for 7 days and lets just say, Aya doesn’t give the best sponge bathes!!
