Miles 2.0….

Yup, updates might slow down for the next few weeks as I had ACL surgery and meniscus surgery done last Wednesday.   All is all it went pretty smoothly I suppose.   I went in for surgery at 6:30.   Surgery started at 8:30 and I was back home before noon.   The basically cut my right knee open, drilled out 2 pieces of bone, graphed my patella tendon and reattached it where my missing ACL ligament was torn.   Then for the meniscus, they repaired it.   The doc said in my pre-op meeting that most of the time the meniscus is not repaired but usually just cut away but I guessed I lucked out and they were able to repair it.

I was able to hobble around hours after the surgery:

A machine was delivered the day before surgery and I have to do physical therapy on my knee 4-6 hours a day.  Basically the machine lifts my leg 40 degrees the first day and I increment it 5 degrees every day after.   I had to do therapy starting the day I got home.   I got a nerve blocker in my leg and it was suppose to wear off after 12 hours but it wore off closer to 24 hours so I didn’t feel anything in my leg for a day.

The day after it was more painful but I was sure if it was from surgery or going into the office.  I can’t drive yet, but my dad took me into the office.  I only worked a few hours and worked from home the rest of the day.  Friday, Saturday and Sunday I rested most of the day and did my therapy and my knee feels good.

I got off the pain meds after 3 days.  I was having strange dreams and I didn’t feel 100% there on the pain meds.    I decided to stop taking them and just take aspirin for the time being.   So far so good.

Jack already pressed down on my leg and that HURT but luckily we were around family or else I would have totally socked him.   For the most part Jack has been really nice.  He helps strap my leg into the machine and he gets my crutches for me.   Since I am in bed most of the time the kids joined me to watch Rio.

Hopefully I will be out and about in a few days.  I have my post surgery visit on Tuesday.   More than anything I can’t wait to unlock the brace and take a shower.  The doc said no showers for 7 days and lets just say, Aya doesn’t give the best sponge bathes!!
